i have been breaking out in hives for the past 2 yrs. i have been tested for every kind of food allergy and everything comes up as negative. my hives get worse in stressful situations like after an exam. i will break out in hives all over my body and my lips, nose, eyes ears cheeks will swell. i have been prescribed claritin and doxepin before. nothing works! what can i do to bring down the swelling and get rid of my hives!!??What to do about hives and facial swelling?
I had hives for ten years. They went away when I went on a gluten free diet following a diagnosis of celiac disease which is an intolerance to the gluten in wheat, rye and barley. You can get a blood test and may need an endoscopy. Get those before you try a gluten free diet because it will cause bad results. Anyway, if your results are positive for celiac, then you will need to go on a gluten free diet and that is it. If your results are negative for celiac, you can still try a gluten free diet for a couple of months and see if your symptoms clear up because you are either allergic or very sensitive to it. My hives went away about 3 weeks after a started my gluten free diet.
Good luck!! Hope this helps some. What to do about hives and facial swelling?
Any swelling in the throat or difficulty breathing with hives should be considered an emergency. If facial swelling or difficulty breathing occur -- or if hives persist despite treatment -- contact your physician immediately!
Hives in the throat may obstruct the airway.
