I've been to several day spas and at some places I breakout after a facial and at others I don't. Is the breaking out a sign that it's working or a sign that they don't know what they are doing? What kind of results should I be looking for. And is there any tips in looking for a day spa or estitician that I might look for in the future. How do you know if a facial works?
Whether you break out or not after a facial depends greatly on the type of facial you get, it has nothing to do with the esthetician although I do think they should warn you about any after care situations.
A vigorous hydrating facial, with lots of massage and oil heavy products would make someone with dry skin glow, but would probably make you break out if your skin was oily or normal. Make sure that the facial you are getting is tailored to your skin type. Tell your esthetician as much about your skin as possible.
If you are having a facial to treat acne, and you breakout after that is normal, when you get a facial you should expect to see the results from it after about a week. The massage and steam helps bring the bacteria to the surface of your skin, so that it can heal faster.
When you go to a day spa make sure they have treatments that would suit you. Many spa's do facials based on there product lines, so figure out which products you like and visit spa's that carry them
